I never intended to go down the route of pallet wood. Being a general builder most of my working life I've accumulated/reclaimed/salvaged a lot of better quality wood. I have it all over the place, in my workshop, in my shed, garden storage and down the sides of my house, enough to keep me going for a long while.

Out walking the dogs one morning though along the promenade after a bit of a storm looking for driftwood I spotted this washed up, couldn't miss it really. Looked like quite thick wood with some nice graining, much better than your average pallet backed up by the size of the nails they used! As pallets go this was well made.

So a mile walk back to get a hammer and crowbar then a mile back with a rather overloaded backpack with a few funny looks on the way even though I was doing beach cleaning as I took the whole pallet including all the rusty nails.

I left it in the workshop for several months then made this frame. Quite pleased with the way it turned out although the focus is of course on the display but it's nice to have the story behind something.
